Microsoft Project is a project management software program product advanced and sold by Microsoft. It is designed to assist project managers to create schedules, allocate resources to tasks, track progress, manage budgets, and analyze workloads. Microsoft Project was the company's third Microsoft Windows-based application. Within some years of its launch, it became a mainstream PC-based project management software program. It's part of the Microsoft Office family, but it's not part of the Office suite. Currently available in two editions, Standard and Professional. Microsoft Project's unique file format is mpp. Microsoft Project and Microsoft Project Server are the foundation of Microsoft Office Enterprise Project Management (EPM) products. Microsoft has made Project 2016, an enterprise project and resource management tool, generally available. Available as part of Microsoft Office 365, Project 2016 provides critical updates to Project Professional, Office 365, and Project Pro in Project Online to meet customer demands for improved resource management and resource capacity planning.
