Alex Spanos Cheap Keenan Allen Jersey , the son of Greek immigrants who used a self-made fortune from construction and real estate to buy the Chargers in 1984, died Tuesday. He was 95.The Chargers announced Spanos' death. Faye Spanos, his wife, died in August at 92.After building a nationwide construction empire based in Stockton, his Northern California hometown, Spanos realized a lifelong dream of owning an NFL franchise when he bought controlling interest in the San Diego Chargers from Gene Klein in 1984 for about $50 million. He eventually bought all but 3 percent of the team.NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hailed Spanos as "an American success story, driven by a tireless work ethic inspired by his humble beginnings.""Alex became one of the country's most successful businessmen, but he never forgot his roots and the call to help others," Goodell added in a statement. "Along with Faye, his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Alex's philanthropic and civic contributions touched many lives throughout California and around the country. He was a marvelous friend and partner whose impact on the NFL will never be forgotten. We all benefited from Alex's compassion, character and zest for football and life."Spanos hadn't been in charge of day-to-day management of the Chargers since 1994, when he turned over the responsibilities to Dean Spanos, his oldest son. He began investing in real estate and started a construction company that mostly built apartment buildings, eventually expanding its footprint across the Sunbelt and Midwest.Spanos and his wife were generous philanthropists, giving to many causes related to hospitals, universities and youth programs. He gave extensively to the University of the Pacific, his alma mater in Stockton, where the Alex G. Spanos Center houses the Tigers' basketball and volleyball teams. He was an avid golfer and counted among his friends Bob Hope, Gerald Ford and many prominent politicians. Hope sometimes attended Chargers home games, sitting in Spanos' box."Alex Spanos lived the American Dream," former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said on Twitter. "His incredible story should inspire each and every one of us. As a son of immigrants, he rose from working in his father's bakery to become a titan of real estate and business. But more importantly, he used his money and platform to give back to the world. He was a dear friend and I'll miss him dearly."During his third season of Chargers ownership, Spanos fired legendary coach Don Coryell after the Chargers started 1-7 in 1986. It took nine seasons for the Chargers to make their first playoff appearance under Spanos' ownership, in 1992.After then-general manager Bobby Beathard nearly resigned following the 1993 season due to a feud over signing bonuses for free agents, Alex Spanos put Dean in charge of day-to-day operations of the team. The stadium hosted Super Bowls in 1998 and 2003, but the city fell behind on maintenance and it fell out of the Super Bowl rotation.Alex Spanos wasn't held in warm regard by many San Diego fans and was booed during a halftime ceremony to retire Hall of Famer Dan Fouts' No. 14 in 1988. After that, Alex Spanos didn't participate in similar ceremonies. The Chargers last year left San Diego, their home of 56 years, and moved north after years of fruitless attempts to secure funding for a new arena to replace aging Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers are currently in the midst of their second of three seasons playing at StubHub Center in suburban Carson, but they will share a multibillion dollar stadium complex in Inglewood with the Los Angeles Rams upon its completion in 2020.Spanos is survived by four children, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The Arizona Cardinals fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy a day after the team was blown out at home by the Denver Broncos on national television.First-year head coach Steve Wilks said Friday that quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich will take over the job for a club that is 1-6, the worst record in the league."Seven weeks into the season, based off where we were from the standpoint of production on the offensive side of the ball, I felt the need to make a change, and that's what I did," Wilks said at a news conference.McCoy, former head coach of the San Diego Chargers Cheap Kyzir White Jersey , was fired for the second time in as many seasons. He was let go after 10 games as Broncos coordinator last year. The Cardinals lost 45-10 on Thursday night, trailing 21-3 after one quarter and 35-3 at the half. Wilks called the effort "embarrassing."But he said his decision to replace McCoy was not based on that one game alone."We weren't productive enough," Wilks said. "Let's just say that, and that may be an understatement."The Cardinals have lost their first four home games for the first time since 1979, nearly a decade before the franchise moved from St. Louis to the desert.Arizona entered Thursday night's game ranked last in the NFL in offense and rushing offense and next-to-last in passing offense. The Cardinals have just 10 offensive touchdowns in seven games.Asked if Leftwich should be considered an "interim" coordinator, Wilks said, "Right now, it's hard to say anybody is going to be permanent."Leftwich is a holdover from the staff of coach Bruce Arians, who retired after last season and was known for his dynamic offense."You definitely want to be able to try to get David Johnson going in the run game as well as the pass game," Wilks said. "With Byron being here before and being part of that and understanding some of the success he's had in the past, hopefully we can tap back into some of the things David was doing in the past."Leftwich was a coaching intern when Johnson led the league in yards from scrimmage and touchdowns two years ago. He was promoted to quarterbacks coach last year and called plays in the preseason this year.Wilks has a coaching background entirely on defense. He was defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers last year. He entrusted the offense to McCoy, figuring the experience at head coach would help. But the offense sputtered from the beginning, especially in attempts to get the ground game moving. The Cardinals switched from Sam Bradford to rookie Josh Rosen at quarterback three games into the season and Rosen had a rough night against Denver, throwing three interceptions 鈥?two returned for touchdowns 鈥?and fumbling the ball away twice.Rosen was injured on his final play and was in a walking boot with a sprained toe on his left foot."He should be fine and ready to go next week," Wilks said. "We have 10 days and based off what the trainers are saying there shouldn't be any setbacks."The Cardinals don't play again until Oct. 28, when they host San Francisco. The 38-year-old Leftwich, a first-round draft pick out of Marshall http://www.chargerscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-virgil-green-jersey , played quarterback in the NFL for 10 seasons with four teams 鈥?Jacksonville, Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh.Rosen has been Leftwich's primary project and the two already have a close relationship. Wilks talked about the need to streamline the offense."I think what Byron is going to do, from what he and I have talked about, is really trying to figure out what Josh does well," Wilks said. "That's the key thing. When you have a young quarterback, we want to make sure that we're putting him in a position to where he can go out there and not have to think so much. Those are the things that we've talked about."Wilks said Rosen is very intelligent, that's not the problem."I think it's clarity," Wilks said. "That's what we need, and we didn't have that. We've got to have clarity in exactly what we're doing in certain situations."McCoy, who has worked in the NFL since 2000, was a highly successful offensive coordinator in a first stint with Denver, leading to him being hired as head coach by the Chargers in 2013.
