Quarterback Cam Newton and linebacker Luke Kuechly will both sit out of the game for Carolina as a precaution according to Rivera.Kyle Allen will get the start at quarterback, but we’ll also see plenty of 2019 third round pick Will Grier, as well as Taylor Heinicke on Thursday since the team is still trying to decide who will be the No. 2 quarterback behind Newton.Rookie running back Jordan Scarlett will also miss Thursday night’s game due to a back injury.Before you freak out, note that the Panthers are being smart about limiting the time that Cam and Luke are playing in a meaningless preseason game. Kuechly was ranked No. 12 last year.It’s interesting that Kuechly dropped 12 spots on this years’ list since his play on the field didn’t really warrant that kind of fall. In 2018 he played in all 16 games for the Panthers and logged 130 tackles (93 solo), 20 tackles-for-loss Youth Ian Thomas Jersey , five quarterback hits, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception. The only explanation I can come up with is that people just kinda forgot about Kuechly since the Panthers finished last season with a 7-9 record and because the defense kinda sucked for a decent chunk of the year (even though that wasn’t Kuechly’s fault).Even if Kuechly is ranked a bit low on this year’s countdown (he should be in the top 15 if you ask me), it’s still obvious that he’s respected by his peers.
