During the following eight years Wes Montgomery grew to become the most popular, most influential and most recorded jazz guitarist of the 1960s. His records constantly topped the best selling jazz charts. Right after leaving Riverside in 1964 Montgomery signed a long term contract with Verve Records. On a number of of these recordings he was backed by big studio orchestras with a string section, in an attempt to help entice a bigger and more popular audience. In 1966 he was given a Grammy award for the ‘Best Instrumental Jazz Performance’ on his record ‘Goin’ Out Of My Head’. Through his many records and live performance and club appearances all over the world, the genius of Wes Montgomery obtained full global acknowledgement.
